February 3: SCHOOL DAY EXTRAVANGANZA-Featuring The Ballethnic Dance Company
 
Highlighting:
    • Tracing Cultural Entertainment Activities
    • Students’ Performance
    • Student Recognition
    • Story Telling
    • Design Costumes
    • Replica of Musical Instrument
    • Pen Pal Program
 
 

Teachers, students, and parents/guardians are invited to participate in the Savannah Black Heritage Festival School Day Extravaganza Activities, sponsored by The City of Savannah Department of Cultural Affairs and produced by Savannah State University.

Goal:  Increase the academic performance of the students in reading, research, organizational skills, creative productivity, writing and presentation of data.

Objective:  The School Day Extravaganza activities will enhance the reading, social studies, language arts, visual, music, performing arts, and research skills of the student.
 
Focus:   A revelation of the differences and similarities of dance styles, movements, sequences, structures, steps, vocabulary, and hand movements of diverse cultures.

Mission:  All students will relate and compare the transition of dance into the American Culture.

February 10, 6:35 pm: Youth Entertainment Showcase (Y.E.S.)

The Savannah Black Heritage’s Youth Entertainment Showcase (Y.E.S.) wants you to be a part of the movement that says YES to new and upcoming local talent. Savannah and the surrounding counties have a history of producing and promoting some of the best talent around. Now, it's time to introduce a new generation of local talent to the world never envisioned before. Calling all singers, musicians, poets, dancers, groups and duos! Y.E.S. will offer you the opportunity to have your own set concert, showcasing your talents and abilities. If you are between the ages of 12-25, this is your time to shine! We are looking for the best of the best, while we acknowledge the positive accomplishments this new-age of talent has to offer. Also attending Y.E.S. will be YouTube sensation Jackson 2 Mime, along with other major figures in the community sharing their gifts and support to this great event completely geared to youth. Submission Criteria

  1. The Y.E.S. Committee reserves the right to select performers for this event
  2. Submit performance via __________ by January 31, 2012 to be considered as a Special Guest Performer
  3. If selected to perform, make sure you are on-time to the required sound checks and review. These are key requirements that guarantee placement in the event.
  4. No profanity, vulgar or inappropriate lyrics, or dirty dancing is allowed.
  5. If selected to perform dress appropriately. Express yourself, in good taste. Avoid revealing too much flesh
  6. Do not forget to send your YouTube audition link with your submission. This is the way for the committee to see what you got :-)
